Women in Military Service for America Memorial
Located at the historic entrance to Arlington Cemetery, the Women in Military Service for America Memorial honors all women who have served in the U.S. armed forces beginning with the American Revolution. Clark restored the historic hemicycle, which was originally built in 1932 as the ceremonial entrance to the Cemetery and incorporated water and light to highlight the roles of military women.
An education center was constructed directly behind the Women in Military Service for America's hemicycle and includes a 196-seat, theater-style auditorium, 14 exhibit alcoves, and a Hall of Honor. In addition, a computer registration area contains photos, military history and memorable experiences of women who have served in any of the military branches.
Visitors can ascend to an upper-level terrace, which follows the curve of the hemicycle, and features glass panels inscribed with quotations by and about women who have served our country. The glass panels serve as a striking skylight system for the education center, reflecting words from the quotations onto the walls and floors of the exhibit.
