Chantilly, Virginia
Virginia Department of Transportation
Year Completed:

The Route 50 Widening project expands Route 50 from four to six lanes for 3.7 miles from Poland Road (Route 742) to Sulley Road (Route 28).

In addition to the expansion of Route 50, Shirley Contracting widened and reconstructed the existing bridges over Cub Run, added a ten-foot-wide, shared-use path on each side of the road, performed improvements to eight signalized intersections, and builtfour new stormwater management facilities.

The project required the acquistion of right-of-way from 68 parcels, including one relocation, and environmental permits. In addition, there was extensive coordination and relocation of facilities owned by 15 different utility companies, as well as coordination of waterline relocations with Fairfax County Water Authority. Shirley administered the quality assurance and quality control and coordinate public involvement.
