Clark Construction led an effort to design and construct the MD 355 Crossing in Bethesda, Maryland. The crossing is comprised of a new below-grade pedestrian tunnel under Rockville Pike (MD 355), connecting the National Institutes of Health campus with the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center campus.

As part of its scope of work, Clark constructed a 49-foot-diameter, 130-foot-deep shaft with a 90-foot-long connector tunnel into the existing Medical Center Metro. The shaft contains a new elevator system allowing passengers to access the Metro from the Walter Reed campus.

The new structure features a combination of concrete, granite, and glass finishes. To maintain continuity with the Metro's aesthetic, the tunnel ceiling incorporates acoustic panels with recessed can lights and quarry tile finish flooring.

Atkinson, Clark Foundations, and C3M Power Systems were also a part of the project team.
