U of C Riverside - Glen Mor 2 Student Housing
Clark constructed the Glen Mor 2 Student Housing project at the University of California, Riverside (U of C, Riverside). The 567,000 square-foot residential complex connects to the existing Glen Mor 1 project on the east side of campus.
The Glen Mor 2 Student Housing project includes five, five-story apartment-style residence halls that altogether accommodate approximately 800 students. The housing facility has dedicated space for meeting rooms, a computer lab, and a fitness center. Clark also constructed a resident services office building, a food emporium, and a swimming pool as an integral part of the complex.
The scope of work included constructing a three-level, 600-space low-profile parking structure and two pedestrian bridges connecting the Glen Mor housing complexes. The project team performed associated landscaping and utility extensions.
Sustainability
The apartment units are designed with a modular bathroom and kitchen core set against a variable multi-layered exterior wall. These exterior layers allow tuning of mass (closets) and void (living and bedroom windows) spaces based upon solar exposure. Combined with calibrated overhangs and vertical support fins, the units can be stacked with windows composed for optimal passive solar response. This unique approach improves building performance and enhances the character of the living environment.
To minimize water resources, the plumbing fixtures all have a low-flow design and the landscape features indigenous, drought-tolerant plants. As a result of these green efforts, Glen Mor Phase 2 has received LEED Gold certification and is the only on-campus UCR apartment with this recognition.
