Suffolk County Jail
Located in Boston, the Suffolk County Jail project is a design-build maximum-security detention facility that provides short-term correctional housing for over 450 inmates. It replaced the historical Charles Street Jail, which operated from 1851 until 1991.
Comprised of structural steel and cast-in-place concrete, the 248,000 square-foot Suffolk County Jail features two symmetrical wings, located around shared outdoor exercise yards. In each tier, 36-40 individual cells surround a two-story day room space, providing year-round recreational areas. Central common areas include a gymnasium, health services, classrooms, administrative space, and visiting areas.
