The Piney Branch Tunnel Project involves the construction of a 4.2-million-gallon storage tunnel to capture combined sewer overflow (CSO). This underground structure will capture stormwater and sewage flow that would otherwise enter Piney Branch during heavy rains.
In addition to excavating for and constructing the tunnel, work includes creating a temporary bypass road and installing concrete diversion structures, flap gates, extensions of outfall bays, and flow monitoring instruments.
