New Chancery for the Australian Embassy
Clark is constructing a new, state-of-the-art chancery for the Australian Embassy, replacing the existing building at its current site on Massachusetts Avenue in downtown Washington, DC.
The 220,000-square-foot, six-story building will feature a custom curtain wall system and expansive interior glass atrium, as well as open public spaces, an exhibition gallery, and office and event spaces. The project team will utilize portions of the existing foundation walls as temporary shoring for the excavation of an additional below-grade story.
The chancery will include environmentally-friendly design features such as a green roof, skylight, and extensive photovoltaic array.
Clark constructed the existing embassy – also designed by Bates Smart – fifty years ago.
