45 DC-Based Companies Play Critical Role at Capital One Arena
May 6, 2026
The transformation of Capital One Arena reached a pivotal milestone this past fall, setting a new benchmark for professional sports facilities. The first phase of the arena’s multi-year construction project delivered a suite of enhanced fan amenities and state-of-the-art game day spaces for the Washington Capitals and the Washington Wizards.
Central to this achievement was the participation of 45 local Certified Business Enterprises (CBEs). These DC-based businesses were instrumental in meeting the construction schedule required to unveil the new spaces in time for the 2025-2026 NHL and NBA seasons.
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Monumental Sports & Entertainment CEO Ted Leonsis toured the completed spaces alongside these CBEs, who shared insight into the craftsmanship and technical coordination needed to execute this transformation.
“Our vision for a wholly re-imagined sports and entertainment destination is ambitious, reflective of our community, and designed to ‘wow’ our most ardent supporters as well as casual fans. We want to capture the magic that comes from providing the most entertaining experience – which every guest deserves.”

Clark Group CEO Lee DeLong emphasized the project's broader impact on the District. “We’re honored to participate in the revitalization of this cultural cornerstone of Washington, DC. This work will transform Capital One Arena into a world-class facility that embodies the spirit and connectivity of this city and expand local economic opportunities for local small businesses.”
The transformation of Capital One Arena serves as a blueprint for how major capital investments can double as engines of opportunity. By leveraging the arena’s evolution to bolster local enterprises, the District is building a more resilient economic ecosystem, ensuring local firms are well-positioned to support ongoing regional development.
