Our commitment to small businesses extends beyond any contracting goal. For more than a decade, Clark has invested in the growth and development of small businesses nationwide through our Strategic Partnership Program – an executive education course designed to give small business owners a solid foundation for smart, sustainable growth. Since its inception, nearly 1,000 entrepreneurs and business leaders have completed the program nationwide, opening the doors to greater economic opportunity and strengthening our industry, and communities, at the same time.

This executive MBA-style program is targeted to small minority-, women-, and veteran-owned firms working in the fields of construction, engineering, and architecture.

About the Program

The Strategic Partnership Program is a key element of Clark’s holistic effort to support small businesses on a national scale. We developed the program in concert with Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business in 2006 with the goal of fostering both the technical and professional development that small contractors need to realize their business objectives and confidently compete for new construction opportunities.

Offered at no cost to participants, the Strategic Partnership Program features a rigorous curriculum consisting of weekly classes, supplemented by special workshops and extended learning sessions. Through the months-long professional development course, business owners receive comprehensive construction management and business skills training from experienced industry leaders.  

Clark’s building professionals shepherd the program and work alongside outside subject matter experts to lead in-depth classroom discussions on topics such as finance and accounting, insurance and bonding, project management, contract review, estimating, and purchasing, as well as general business competencies, such as networking and presentation skills. The program’s intensive Capstone Project further underscores the importance of business soft skills, teamwork, and forming strategic relationships to strengthen competitive advantage and likelihood of success on future pursuits.

The impact of the Strategic Partnership Program is best evidenced in the growth and success of program alumni. Today, scores of past graduates are leveraging the important lessons they learned during the course to be more focused and successful in their approach to winning new work – both with Clark and with other general contractors.  

Clark is proud to partner with dozens of program graduates to help deliver critical infrastructure in cities across the country. We have awarded more than $1 billion in contracts to program alumni over the last decade alone – a number that continues to grow.
