Groundbreaking Marks the Start of Construction on P-714 Project at Naval Station Great Lakes

Great Lakes, IL – On January 24, Clark Construction, joint venture partner Blinderman Construction, and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) celebrated the start of work at the P-714 Unaccompanied Housing Project.

The design-build project located at Naval Station Great Lakes (NSGL) will feature a new, 166,000-square-foot barracks capable of housing more than 600 enlisted military personnel. Opened in 1911, the NSGL is the Navy’s largest training installation and the home of the Navy’s only Boot Camp.

Clark/Blinderman will construct the facility with laundry rooms on each floor, a dayroom/multi-purpose room, lounges, computerized classrooms, and a vending/kitchen area. The structure will consist of reinforced concrete on a shallow foundation with a brick exterior. The contract also includes the demolition of two other buildings on the base.

The groundbreaking ceremony hosted Captain Ray Leung, the Commanding Officer at NSGL, along with other distinguished officials from the Navy Installations Command.

Clark Senior Vice President David Trolian stated, “Clark is excited to deliver another quality project to Great Lakes Naval Station and build on our long-standing relationship there."

This project is Clark’s sixth job at Naval Station Great Lakes. Previous projects include the Camp Porter Barracks & Infrastructure, Processing Day Barracks, Camp John Paul Jones Barracks & Infrastructure, Prototype Barracks, and PEPCO Energy Savings Performance Contract.

The project team’s first major milestone will be the superstructure top out in August 2019. Completion is slated for August 2020.
