University of Maryland Campus Recreation Center
Clark built the University of Maryland - College Park (UMD) Campus Recreation Center in 1997. The 240,000 square-foot facility is highlighted by a glass and curtain wall façade and blends aesthetics with durability and easy maintenance.
The Campus Recreation Center includes two multi-purpose gymnasiums designed for basketball, volleyball and badminton as well as a three-lane indoor running track suspended from trusses. Prominently featured is an indoor aquatic center with an Olympic-class pool for recreation and intercollegiate swim meets and a smaller pool for instruction and recreation.
Other activity spaces include a two-story weight room, cardiovascular area with floor-to-ceiling windows, aerobic dance room with built-in sound system, and martial arts room. There also are eight glass-walled racquet courts. An outdoor aquatic center offers a heated pool, deck, snack bar and grill, and children’s pool. The project also includes meeting rooms and office space, as well as a lounge with snack bar.
