Dulles East/West Baggage Handling & Concourse C/D Rehabilitation
Clark Civil, in a joint venture, continued the company's long relationship with Dulles International Airport and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority with the construction of the Main Terminal East and West Baggage Basements – EDS In-Line High Volume Baggage Screening (East and West Baggage) and the Concourse C/D Rehabilitation Passenger Boarding Bridge Improvements (Concourses C/D Rehabilitation) as part of a capital improvements project at the airport.
As part of the East and West Baggage project, the team integrated new baggage handling and inspection systems in the airport's main terminal. Clark Civil also reconfigured and replaced the existing baggage conveyor system, upgraded the conveyor controls, and constructed a three-level, below-grade, cast-in-place concrete addition to the east basement, which included heavy concrete and structural modifications, and HVAC, plumbing, and electrical relocation. The airport’s baggage handling and screening capabilities remained active during construction.
The Concourse C/D Rehabilitation project extends the life of the airport’s C and D concourses while a permanent replacement is built nearby. Clark is demolishing the existing passenger boarding bridge (PBB) foundations, installing caissons for PBB pedestal support, paving and refurbishing the PBBs, and installing electrical, fire, and alarm systems, as well as pre-conditioned air units.
