Inova Women's and Inova Children's Hospital Tops Out
FAIRFAX, Va. – More than a year since the Inova Women's and Inova Children's Hospital broke ground, the project has reached its topping out. The $215 million project, which anticipates earning LEED Silver certification, is part of Inova Health System’s multi-year effort to upgrade its Fairfax campus to a world-class environment for patient care, education, and research.
The Women's Hospital and Children's Hospital will cohabitate in a 665,000 square-foot, 12-story structure. The Women's Hospital will contain 192 patient rooms on four floors, a 108-bed neonatal intensive care unit, 33 labor and delivery rooms, six C-section suites, and eight operating rooms. Clark is also constructing support areas, a ground-floor clinic, and a kitchen. The Children's Hospital will occupy three floors of the building, with its own dedicated entrance, and will contain 116 private pediatric rooms. The entire facility will connect to the campus' existing South Patient Tower on the three lower levels.
The project team is currently focused on installing the building's envelope, which is scheduled to complete by late summer. The structure's skin is composed of precast panels, glass curtainwalls, and ribbon windows.
Construction of the new facility began in September 2012 and is expected to complete in Fall of 2015.
