P-314 Recruit Barracks Marine Corps Recruit Depot Celebrates Steel Topping Out

San Diego, CA - On July 15, Clark Construction, along with our partners at Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and valuable trade partners, celebrated topping out the concrete structure of the P-314 Recruit Barracks at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego. This event marks the structural completion of the modern facility, bringing the team one step closer to delivering a state-of-the-art home for the nation's future Marines.

Designed and owned by Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), the 121,600-square-foot, three-story recruit barracks features open-bay sleep areas, drill instructor spaces, and two company offices. The project also includes detached supporting structures and extensive landscaping and hardscaping.

To reach this structural milestone, the team logged more than 60,000 safe manhours and achieved several impressive engineering feats:

• 18,000+ cubic yards of soil handled during mass excavation
• 314 aggregate base piers installed to stabilize the foundation
• 8,400 cubic yards of concrete placed
• 420 miles of rebar (totaling over 1,114 tons of steel) set in place
• 5,560+ lineal feet of new utilities installed, including storm drain, sewer, domestic and fire water, gas, and electric lines.

With the structural steel complete, the project team shifts focus to beginning perimeter and exterior masonry walls, constructing the standalone laundry building, raising the roof parapet walls, and starting interior rough-ins ahead of the scheduled 2028 completion.
