Berkeley, CA – On May 13, 2026, our Clark team recently joined representatives from the University of California, Berkeley to officially break ground on the landmark Bancroft Student Housing project, paving the way for the next generation of Golden Bears. Designed by KieranTimberlake, the transformational project addresses the university’s need for on-campus student accommodations while driving local economic growth through partnerships with nearly 30 Small and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (SDBEs) throughout the duration of the project.

The 350,000-square-foot development will feature a striking 23-story tower situated atop a three-story podium, making it one of the tallest structures in the city of Berkeley. Beyond modern living spaces, this 1,625-bed residential community features state-of-the-art facilities designed to foster a vibrant, collaborative atmosphere, including a 500-seat dining hall, fitness center, music rooms, outdoor terraces, and flexible student meeting spaces.

"We are incredibly proud to partner with UC Berkeley to deliver a project that directly supports the university's growth and addresses a critical housing need for its students," said Hani Alawneh, REO and senior vice president with Clark Construction. "By collaborating with a diverse network of local SDBE partners, we aren't just building a modern, world-class residential facility – we are investing in the economic vitality and talent of the local community."

With the groundbreaking successfully completed, crews are completing mat foundation work to prepare for the tower's vertical rise. The Bancroft Student Housing project is scheduled to welcome its first student residents in 2028.
