Erin Young Named One of Los Angeles Business Journal’s Women of Influence in Construction and Design

Erin Young

Erin Young, a project executive at Clark Construction Group, has been named as one of Los Angeles Business Journal’s Women of Influence for 2020. Honored alongside influential leaders and innovators in Los Angeles, Erin was selected for her exceptional achievements in construction and design.

Erin is currently leading construction efforts on a new state-of-the-art receiving station at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This facility, along with associated electrical infrastructure improvements, will resolve power reliability issues, supply redundancy power to major airport facilities, and provide additional capacity for future infrastructure projects at LAX.

Erin recently led a high-performing design-build team to deliver the Long Beach Civic Center (LBCC). Encompassing four buildings and spread across several city blocks, this multi-faceted development in the heart of downtown Long Beach continues to garner national industry recognition a year after its completion. As project executive, Erin was responsible for the successful early delivery of more than 600,000 feet of sustainable structures, including a new city hall and civic chambers, a headquarters for the Port of Long Beach, and a public library, all of which play a critical role in reshaping the downtown area.

Marilyn Surakus, who worked side by side with Erin as the project management officer for the Long Beach Public Works department, attests to her leadership skills.

“It was great working with Erin over four-years while delivering the design-build Long Beach Civic Center project. I found Erin professional, smart and friendly during all aspects of our contractor-client relationship.  She has a ‘get-it-done’ attitude and was always ready to problem solve challenges. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her and would welcome the opportunity to do so again.”

Throughout her decade long career at Clark, Erin has played critical roles on more than $1.5 billion of work in Southern California. In addition to the LBCC, Erin helped build two of the most prominent civic structures to rise on the West Coast in recent years – the 942,000-square-foot, Governor George Deukmejian Courthouse in Long Beach, and the 632,000-square-foot US Federal Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.

Her leadership, ongoing mentorship of young engineers, and commitment to giving back to the community create a positive and lasting impact at Clark, within our community, and in the construction industry.

Erin holds a bachelor’s degree in construction management from the University of Florida.
