Clark Partners with NSLC to Offer High School Students Practical Insights into Construction Management
September 5, 2024
This summer, Clark Construction Group partnered with the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) to provide high school students with an introduction to construction management and the various career paths within the built environment through job site tours, design critiques, and interaction with industry professionals.
The NSLC provides an immersive pre-college experience for high school students across the country, offering them the opportunity to explore career concentrations, experience university life, and develop leadership skills.
As part of the program’s architecture cohort, hosted at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, Clark led a total of 218 students on active job site tours of The Stacks, Hampden House, WMATA Northern Bus Garage, and 600 Fifth to observe the practical application of architectural concepts and witness firsthand the collaborative efforts of architects, engineers, and construction workers.
“The job site tours gave students an invaluable opportunity to see what active construction not only looks like, but what it means to be a contractor, a general contractor, a superintendent, and what construction management looks like day-to-day,” said NSLC Architecture Program Director Adeniyi Onanuga.
“The tour definitely increased my interest in what the industry has to offer. Seeing the real-world application of architecture and the complexity of the construction process was incredibly inspiring.”

In addition to hosting job site tours, members of Clark’s design management team joined other industry professionals to serve as panel judges for students’ final studio projects, providing feedback on design intent, physical structure, and landscape, and sharing valuable career advice.
The partnership with the NSLC reinforces Clark’s commitment to attract and grow the next generation of builders through meaningful and enriching experiences that promote awareness of the variety of career opportunities in the construction industry.
