SARASOTA, Fla. – Janie Poe Associates, LLC, of Sarasota, Fla., has awarded Clark Construction Group an $11.3 million contract for the Janie Poe Neighborhood Phase I project. The project is part of the Newtown Redevelopment Project in Sarasota.

The scope of the contract calls for demolition and reconstruction of portions of the 35-year-old Janie Poe neighborhood. When complete, Clark will have expanded the neighborhood’s Section 8 housing capacity from 52 units to a mixture of 86 affordable and market-rate one- to four-bedroom apartment homes in 14 buildings. The new complex will also feature green elements.

The 109,000 square-foot development plans include picnic pavilions, a playground, benches, bike racks, and a clubhouse designed to achieve LEED® Certification.

Janie Poe Neighborhood Phase I is the first stage in the Newtown Redevelopment Program, a $17 million revitalization effort sponsored by Sarasota Housing Authority.

When all the other phases are completed, the Newtown Redevelopment Program will include more than 800 units of market-rate, public and affordable housing, as well as an elderly facility, homeownership component, and retail space.
