Clark Construction Begins Suwannee Correctional Institution

SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. – Clark Construction Group, LLC, has begun site work and construction at Suwannee Correctional Institution, a 316-acre, 1,521-bed Close Custody Institution in Suwannee County, Fla.

The completed Suwannee Correctional Institution will consist of five two-story secure housing units, three men’s open bay dormitories, administration building, front and rear support buildings, front sally port gatehouse, rear sally port, three generator buildings, central control tower, warehouse building and 250,000-gallon water tower. The 314,176-square-foot project is scheduled for delivery by July 30, 2009.

All building foundations will be reinforced concrete slab-on-grade with integral thickened grade beams and mats. The Secure Housing Units will have structural steel framing, precast concrete modular cells, and exterior precast concrete wall panels. The Men’s Open Bay Dormitories and Central Control Tower will also be constructed with precast concrete wall panels and structural steel framing. In addition to erecting buildings, Clark will handle sitework and extending utilities from the prison site to the city of Live Oak, 7.5 miles to the west. Clark will also provide excavation, landscaping, and install security fencing.

Clark Construction Group’s portfolio includes Franklin Correctional Institution, Carrabelle, Fla.; Pinellas County Jail Facility, North Clearwater, Fla.; and United States Penitentiaries in Coleman, Fla. and Terre Haute, Ind. Currently, the company is constructing McDowell Federal Correctional Institution in Welch, W.Va., Sexual Violent Predators Facility in Arcadia, Fla., and Wakulla Correctional Institution in Crawfordville, Fla.

Creech Engineers of Tallahassee, Fla. will be the project’s civil engineering firm. The Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) will provide architectural and additional engineering services.
