Clark Completes $73 Million West Orange High School Project

— Clark Construction Group, LLChas completed the $73 million West Orange High School project in Winter Garden, Fla. The project included building a new, 377,000 square-foot high school on a 61-acre campus and renovating one existing classroom building for Orange County Public Schools. The scope of work also included the demolition of older school facilities. The new West Orange High School replaces an outdated, 30-year-old school and will accommodate apporoximately 3,000 students.

West Orange High School is comprised of eight buildings designed around an open courtyard. This site layout promotes accessibility to each building while maximizing campus safety. Clark's scope of work included constructing the school's three two-story classroom buildings, an administrative building, a media center/gymnasium, a cafeteria/energy plant, a remote field house for athletic programs, and an auditorium/music building. Additional work included installing or upgrading roadways, parking lots, athletic fields, outdoor activity areas, and site utilities.

To expedite the construction process and control costs, the exterior of each building is tilt-up concrete. Infill framing for elevated classroom floors consists of structural steel, metal deck, and concrete topping slab. The building's roofs are structural steel/bar joists, metal deck, lightweight insulated concrete, and sheet membrane roofing system. Interior walls are constructed of both concrete masonry units (CMU) and drywall; CMU was selected for durability and is utilized in high student traffic areas while drywall is utilized in remaining areas.
