Clark Construction Completes New Campus Village Housing Project

— San José State University’s new Campus Village housing project is now complete, adding 1,600 beds to the campus. Clark Construction Group – California, LP of Oakland, Calif. served as the general contractor on the $146 million project.

This ambitious housing redevelopment effort shifts the urban school away from its current profile as a largely commuter-oriented institution toward a more traditional college environment with over 20% of the students living on campus. Designed by Niles Bolton Associates, Inc. of Atlanta, the Campus Village housing project features three multi-story residential buildings above a two-level parking structure.

Eight-story Building A includes apartment units designed for faculty and staff. Building B contains 15-stories of several different types of apartment units for student use. Located on the first two levels are a student recreation center, meeting and conference space, computer lab, retail store shell space, offices of the Housing Department of the University and related support space. Seven-story Building C is designed with suite units targeted for freshman students.

Additional team members included: Nolte Associates of San José, civil engineer; Culp & Tanner of Chico, Calif., structural engineer; and Flack & Kurtz of San Francisco, mechanical/electrical engineer.
