In 2003, the law firm of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP (WCPHD) signed a lease for 280,000 square feet at 1875 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., a building owned and developed by The Mark Winkler Company, in partnership with EastBanc, Inc. This lease, when combined with the firm’s two adjacent properties and future potential leases, is considered the largest private sector lease in the District’s history. Clark Interiors, a division of Clark Construction Group (www.clarkconstruction.com), is completing the third phase of the build out, which includes 280,000 square feet at the center building of this complex.
When 1875 Pennsylvania Avenue delivers in the first quarter of 2006, WCPHD will occupy three buildings on the north side of Pennsylvania Avenue between 18th and 19th Streets - consisting of the existing 1801 Pennsylvania Avenue, 1875 Pennsylvania Avenue and the recently renovated 1899 Pennsylvania Avenue. The firm currently occupies offices in 1801 and 1899 Pennsylvania. Clark Interiors is building out 15 floors of 1875 Pennsylvania Avenue for the firm. This three building complex will be interconnected to allow Wilmer Cutler to operate seamlessly between the three buildings.
Designed by Lehman-Smith + McLeish, PLLC of Washington, the space is highlighted by custom features and rich materials. A two-story interior aluminum glass curtain wall system can be found at the front of every conference room. The 12th floor conference room includes custom millwork panels on the walls and a suspended wood panel ceiling. All perimeter front offices have custom sycamore veneered millwork doors with integrated glass wall panels. The custom reception desk features integrated lighting beneath a curved glass top. Italian marble and granite can be found throughout the space, in the elevator lobbies and as pavers to accentuate the glass walls at the perimeter office fronts.
