Super-Fast Design/Build Project Adds 505 Buildings to Fort Bliss in Eight Months

— United States Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Worth District, recently awarded a $161 million contract to Clark Design/Build, LLC to clear 300 acres at the Fort Bliss Army installation and construct 505 buildings for turnkey occupancy in just eight months. The design/build entity consists of Clark Construction Group, LLC of Tampa and LS3P ASSOCIATES of Charleston, S.C. This is a Temporary Unit of Action project to support a brigade that is being formed under the Army’s Modular Force transformation program.

Currently, the base can only house 40% of the 12,000 soldiers stationed at the post. With the military realignment currently planned by the Department of Defense, an additional 20,000 troops will be calling El Paso area home. Over the next six years, the overall building campaign at the Fort Bliss installation will exceed $2 billion.

This project, known as a Temporary Unit of Action, will include 392 barracks, 13 laundry facilities, 20 storage buildings, 13 dayroom facilities and 65 administration buildings. In addition, Clark will erect a 32,500-square-foot dining facility and five 10,000-square-foot tensioned fabric structures, which will be used for combat vehicle maintenance.

Fort Bliss is the home of the Air Defense Artillery Center of Excellence and is responsible for air defense artillery training of U.S. soldiers and various allied nation soldiers. It also the home of seven Forces Command warfighting units. With 1.1 million acres across Texas and New Mexico, this post is bigger than the state of Rhode Island and can accommodate every weapon system in the Army.
