Clark Construction Renovates W. Va. Air National Guard Base for C-5 Fleet

— Clark Construction Group, LLC was recently awarded a $16 million contract with the West Virginia National Guard to construct a new 10-story, 130-foot airport control tower at the West Virginia Air National Guard facilities in Martinsburg, W.Va. The project involves demolition of the existing control tower, construction of a new tower, and installation of new infrastructure for the entire base, including all new utilities services, a new main entrance road, a new guard house and security upgrades.

The construction is the first step in converting the 167th Airlift Wing into a site for the C-5 fleet - a component of the Air Mobility Command’s strategic airlift concept. These aircraft, some of the largest in the world, can carry fully equipped combat-ready military units to any point in the world on short notice and provide field support needed to support troops.

“This expanded mission for the West Virginia Air National Guard will bring new jobs and new infrastructure, as well as provide an economic boost for the entire eastern panhandle of the state,” said Senator Robert C. Byrd, D-W. Va. When completed, the C-5 initiative will create approximately 170 new part-time jobs and a substantial number of new full-time jobs, according to National Guard officials.

The project is scheduled for completion in Fall 2005.
