The Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) selected Mc4West, LLC for the $850 million McCormick Place West Expansion, a project that will add a fourth building to the world’s largest convention center complex. The Mc4West design build team is comprised of essentially the same team members that delivered the McCormick Place South Expansion on schedule and under budget in 1996.
Key partners of the Mc4West team include: Clark Construction Group, LLC of Chicago (general contracting and construction management); Hunt Construction Group, Inc. of Indianapolis (construction services and program management); A. Epstein and Sons International, Inc. of Chicago (architectural and engineering); Mesirow Stein Development Services, Inc. of Chicago (program management); Mota Construction Company of Chicago (general contracting and construction management); II in One Contractors, Inc. of Chicago (general contracting and construction management); Globetrotters Engineering Corporation of Chicago (architecture and engineering); McKissack & McKissack Midwest headquartered in Washington, D.C. (program and construction management); Cotter Consulting, Inc. of Chicago (program management); and Pentad, Inc. of Chicago (affirmative action program management).
“We are extremely pleased with the selection of the Mc4West team. They have extensive experience nationwide in the design and construction of convention centers. In addition, they have a history of success and understanding of McCormick Place,” said Kelly R. Welsh, Chairman of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority. “We are confident the West Building will be a first-class facility that will exceed the expectations of our customers.”
Approximately 500,000 square feet of exhibition space and approximately 200,000 square feet of meeting space will be added to the McCormick Place complex, which currently features 2.2 million square feet of exhibit space and 360,000 square feet of meeting room space. The site for the new complex is located in an area bordered by Cermak Road, Martin Luther King Drive, Indiana Avenue and the Stevenson Expressway.
Financing for the project was secured through a 2002 bond sale. Construction of the new McCormick Place West Building will require no new taxes. Substantial completion of the project is scheduled for 2007.
