Clark Construction Group Honored for Recycling Effort

— Clark Construction Group, LLC recently earned two awards for the recycling effort at the Capitol Area East End Complex in Sacramento. The California Resource Recovery Association awarded Clark Construction the 2002 award for the Best Construction and Demolition Diversion Program. For the second year in a row, the California Integrated Waste Management Board distinguished the project in their Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP). Over 87% of the construction debris - 12,000 tons - has been diverted from landfills, exceeding the project goal by 12%.

Clark and its design-build partner Gruen Associates of Los Angeles are working on one of the largest public works projects the State of California has undertaken. Encompassing four city blocks, the $225 million Capitol Area East End Complex includes 1.2 million square feet of office space and a 630,000-square-foot parking garage that will consolidate the State’s operations for health, education and general services.

What makes the structure unique is the State’s commitment to construct a facility that blends with the natural environment, as part of the project’s overall “green design.” Environmentally friendly design and construction standards address energy and water conservation, construction/demolition waste management, use of recycled materials, alternative energy, indoor air quality, and recharging stations for electric vehicles and carpools. Computer-based energy-use models maximize energy efficiency.

Capitol Area East End Complex is scheduled for completion in Spring 2003.
