Clark Construction Completes R.M. Clayton Water Reclamation Center for City of Atlanta

— Clark Construction Group, LLC recently completed a $100 million expansion project at the R. M. Clayton Water Reclamation Center, a wastewater treatment facility that serves most of Atlanta and portions of two counties. Designed by Camp Dresser & McKee/Harrington, George and Dunn Joint Venture of Atlanta and owned by the City of Atlanta, the Center has achieved compliance with effluent and water quality standards and can now expand to meet future needs.

This expansion not only provides increased plant capacity, odor control measures, and updates for phosphorus removal, but also features a new headworks facility, ultra-violet (UV) light disinfection, new office and laboratory space, renovation to existing buildings and extensive landscaping. Included in the phosphorus removal facilities are ten 150-foot diameter secondary clarifiers, effluent filter and a 330-mgd pump station. The UV facility is one of the largest in the United States.

Throughout the project, the existing water reclamation center remained operational. The team faced the challenge of completing a minimum of six secondary clarifiers and necessary tie-ins and ancillary equipment within 16 months to make way for demolition of existing facilities.

Clark Construction Group, LLC is headquartered in Bethesda, Md.
