Clark/Smoot Begins Work on DC USA Retail Complex in Washington, D.C.

LOS ANGELES – Clark/McCarthy, A Joint Venture recently started renovation work at the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The project, for Los Angeles World Airports, includes major interior renovations and installation of a new checked-baggage screening system. This $503-million project is designed to reduce congestion, increase safety and provide additional amenities for travelers.

The initial work involves a temporary facility for Mexicana Airlines. A new multiple ticket counter location and baggage scanning area will be constructed to allow future work in the current ticketing area to take place.

Approximately 60,000 square feet of space will be added to the Tom Bradley International Terminal to accommodate the new in-line checked baggage security screening facility, which will replace the large explosive detection machines currently located in the ticketing areas.

The project also will include improvements at the ticketing, concourse and public areas of the terminal. As part of the concourse renovation, a portion of the existing terminal will be modified to accommodate the next generation of large aircrafts, such as the Airbus 380, which can seat up to 800 passengers. In addition, the baggage handling system will be upgraded to integrate with the new in-line screening and automated sortation facilities.

Other improvements include new digital signage which will provide real-time flight information and larger luggage carousels to make it easier for passengers to retrieve their checked bags.

The renovation work will be completed in multiple phases over 38 months, with final completion in 2010. While under construction, the Tom Bradley International Terminal will remain fully operational. Los Angeles World Airports provides updated information on how the project affects travelers at www.lawa.org/lax/laxexpect.cfm.
