Clark/Smoot Begins Work on DC USA Retail Complex in Washington, D.C.

TAMPA, FLA. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) - Mobile District awarded Clark Construction Group, LLC a $61 million contract to build a replacement USCENTCOM Headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa.

During Phase I of the project, Clark will construct a four-story, 257,000 square-foot building with Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) areas throughout. The completed building will feature driven steel pipe piles and reinforced concrete foundations, a steel frame with insulated pre-cast concrete panels, metal decking, standing seam metal roof, raised access flooring, and laminated force protection glass.

Clark also will manage the installation of underground utilities, a backup generator, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system, telecommunications wiring infrastructure, and audio visual infrastructure. Site work during this phase will include paving, constructing a large entrance plaza, and installing security fencing.

Phase II of the USCENTCOM Headquarters project will consist of the demolition of the existing 220,000 square-foot headquarters building and the construction of a separate reception center with parking and landscaping.

Burns & McDonnell of Kansas City, Mo., will serve as the architect and engineer for this project. Clark previously partnered with Burns & McDonnell on the LCDR Otis Vincent Tolbert Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC) project. The $108 million JIOC campus opened at MacDill earlier this year.

Construction began in July 2009 and completion is scheduled for March 2012.
