Bethesda's First LEED Platinum Office Building Tops Out with Perfect Safety Record

Bethesda, MD – On January 31, craftsmen celebrated the topping out of 4500 East West, a 330,000 square-foot, pre-certified LEED Platinum office building located in downtown Bethesda, Md.

Developed by Carr Properties/4500 East West Highway, LLC, a Delaware Limited Liability Company, the project features a full-height curtain wall glass system, 13,000 square feet of ground-floor retail, a fitness facility, a conference center, a 4,500 square-foot rooftop terrace, and below-grade parking with 222 parking spaces. The project’s efficient 25,000 square-foot floor plate will allow for flexible tenant layouts.

Just as important as the topping out of the nine-story Class-A facility is the Clark project team's impeccable safety record. Since assembling on site twelve months ago, the project has had zero lost time incidents. A solid safety culture was of the utmost importance from the beginning of the project, and reinforcing this core value is something the team has committed to doing every day.

4500 East West marks the thirty-ninth project that Clark has undertaken with Carr Properties. At the topping out ceremony, Robert Carr, Managing Partner, remarked, "With a long history and trusted working relationship, this project has reunited the Carr/Clark team. Carr knew Clark offered the expertise to get the job done.

Clark Foundations performed the support of excavation work, including an off-line sheeting and shoring system to account for rock at the bottom levels, rock bolts at the rock locations, and bracket piles at the adjacent parking garage. Shalom Baranes Associates is serving as the project architect.
