The best builders are never finished learning

In order to provide the best services, we need the best employees. In part, this comes from hiring the right people. Another part is making sure current employees receive the training they need to keep their skills sharp. Clark is committed to retaining and training employees at all levels to foster professional and personal growth.

Clark Corporate University

For this reason, we have developed Clark Corporate University. It provides our employees with technical, management, and leadership classes that prepare them for current assignments and help them achieve long-term career goals. Additional informal programs – mentoring groups, seminars, and jobsite tours – ensure that learning is all in a day’s work.

Some of our Clark Corporate University programs:

JumpSTART Orientation Program

Our JumpSTART Orientation Program was created for recent graduates, to orient them to Clark and our culture. On a new recruit’s first day, he or she takes part in a full day of activities meant to encourage a sense of being part of the Clark team. New employees get acquainted with the functions of various departments, have lunch with senior executives, tour a jobsite, get an overview of project operations, receive a safety briefing, and are taught how to use Clark’s employee intranet.

Professional Development Rotation Program

To allow entry-level graduates to an overall understanding of the entire construction process, perform some key components of it, and hopefully get a sense of which career path to follow, we created our Professional Development Rotation Program. In their first few years at Clark, these individuals explore field engineering, project management, and acquisition.

  • Field engineering provides an understanding of how a building is built, from the ground up. Members of the program learn what it takes to get construction underway on a jobsite, and coordinate on-site work.
  • The project management segment gives recent graduates an understanding of a project’s day-to-day elements as well as the long-term business and financial management components.
  • Acquisition gives entry-level employees an idea of what tasks are necessary prior to the start of construction, namely preconstruction, estimating, and purchasing. In addition, this rotation gives employees an understanding of how Clark develops and maintains relationships in the interest of business development.

Team Clark Mentoring Program

The Team Clark Mentoring Program is another program for entry-level new hires. It not only provides information about the construction industry, it works to enhance professional development, facilitate relationships with others at Clark, provide the opportunity to interact with industry experts, and help program participants become familiar with the area in which they live and work.

The mentors – employees with several years of operations experience – plan monthly educational and social events including trips to local sporting events, area attractions, and cultural activities; progressive job site tours; visits with architects and subcontractors; and community service and charity events.

Clark’s rotation program through estimating, field engineering, and project management has given me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge in each of these areas, and also to effectively apply that knowledge directly to every aspect of the job.
